Shadow and Bone is the first books in the Shadow and Bone trilogy as well as the first book in the Grishaverse. Alina Starkov is a Soldier who she won't solve the journey across the Shadow Fold, a area of darkness crawling with monsters, when her Best Friend Mal is shot Alina unleashes powers she didn't even know she had. Alina is what they call the Grisha. I loved this book. I heard so many things about it on instagram and I was a little nervous about starting it because i didn't think I would like it, but in the end I really enjoyed it. I heard more about the Six of Crows duology and i still want to read those books but I heard it's better if you read the shadow and bone trilogy first. I love that the book didn't immediately start with Alina with all the other Grisha, I liked being able to see her living a somewhat normal life before finding out that she is Grisha. I also loved that you couldn't really guess who was the "Big Bad" was of the book until the very last minute. The One things i didn't like was how slow the pacing was at first but once you get into the book it goes by quickly. Normally i find a Ship or a Relationship that i love in each book i read and in this book i have two. The first one is of course Alina and Mal, I love how they go from being best friends to being in love with each other. Alina has feelings for Mal at the begging of the book but she believes that he does not return them, but while Alina was away he began to have feeling for her. The Second ship is Genya and David, although David is almost always Preoccupied with making weapons i feel like there is something between them that they are not seeing. I am hoping to see more of this while reading the rest of the Trilogy. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
