The Toll is the Last book in the Scythe Series.

The Scythe Series takes place on earth hundreds of years from now. In this time humans have conquered death, which is why the Scythes exist to keep the balance. Scythes randomly kill or glean people according to their gleaning quotas. Citra Terranova and Rowan Damich are chosen to be Scythe Apprentice's by Scythe Michael Faraday. Neither of the wants the job which is why Scythe Faraday thinks they are perfect for the job. Being a Scythe means that they won't have to worry about getting gleaned or their family getting gleaned. Only one can become a scythe. This entire series was amazing. I remember reading the first book "Scythe" for ELA class two years ago and really enjoying it. I am normally the type of reader who actually really enjoys romance in Sci-fi novels, but I actually enjoyed that in this series romance didn't really seem to affect the plot or any of the characters action. As every final books in a series does, it made me sad at times. There was so much going on in every chapter, especially with Rowan. The one couple in this book that I really seemed to enjoy despite there not being a lot of romance were Rowan and Citra. They had forbidden love. It was cute and the very last scene in the book was by far the cutest. I won't go into that scene because there would be a lot of spoilers for the rest of the book. I highly recommend the Scythe series if your looking for a book that is Sci-fi but doesn't have a lot of Romance. I rate The Toll 5 out of 5 stars.
